Motiv Power Systems Receives Follow-Up Order for Electric Delivery Trucks from Bimbo Bakeries USA After Successful Pilot

Zero emissions vehicles will help reduce total cost of ownership

[Foster City, Calif. – November 10, 2020]Motiv Power Systems announced a renewal of its partnership with Bimbo Bakeries USA (BBU), the largest bakery in the United States. This follows a successful 12-month pilot of five Motiv-powered electric trucks that performed flawlessly on real-world delivery routes. BBU and Motiv are now strengthening their partnership, with 23 additional trucks currently in production and another 100 planned for 2021 deployments, all powered by Motiv’s EPIC F-59 chassis. BBU will deploy these additional vehicles across California, New York, and Pennsylvania.

“We are pleased with the 100 percent uptime of our pilot vehicles and look forward to growing this partnership into 2021 with additional deployments,” said Eric McCann, Technical Fleet Manager for Bimbo Bakeries USA. “Sustainability is built into our company’s purpose and incorporating these vehicles into our fleet is an important step toward reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. With Motiv’s help, we’re confident that we will meet our goals.”

BBU, a baking industry leader, is mindful of its environmental footprint and aims to set a positive example among its peers, associates, customers, and consumers. The company has implemented programs throughout the country to reduce water, power, and energy usage, decrease air emissions, and utilize an environmentally responsible waste management system.

Bimbo Bakeries USA doubled down on sustainability with a triple-digit repeat order of all-electric delivery vans utilizing the EPIC F-59 chassis from Motiv Power Systems.

“Our continued work with Bimbo Bakeries USA to help achieve their sustainability goals runs concurrent with our mission to free fleets from fossil fuels,” said Matt O’Leary, Motiv Chairman and CEO. “We are grateful for the trust Bimbo has placed in our products, thanks to our industry-leading technology development by our engineering team, the robust build and quality delivered by our manufacturing team, and the excellent service provided by our customer support team.”

Delivery vans are a popular choice for large parcel and delivery fleets, linen and uniform companies, and bakery trucks, due to the ample cargo space which is easily accessible while drivers make multiple stops. The last-mile operations and return-to-depot nature make them a great candidate for electrification.

As fleets move to electric, operators need a way to seamlessly transition their internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to electric vehicles (EVs) without compromising functionality and reliability. Motiv’s EPIC chassis utilizes a proprietary AdaptEVTM software platform, which provides optimized vehicle performance and efficiency. The EPIC chassis are Ford eQVM approved and retain the Ford OEM chassis warranty. By utilizing an OEM chassis, truck and bus builders can install the same bodies on EPIC chassis that fleet managers and drivers are using today in their gasoline or diesel vehicles, enabling an even easier pathway to electrification.

Motiv Power Systems Secures $15 Million in Funding from GMAG Holdings Corp.

Additional funding will provide the capital needed to accelerate customer expansion

[Foster City, Calif. – August 24, 2020]Motiv Power Systems, a sustainable technology company delivering all-electric chassis with a proven software platform for the electrification of medium-duty trucks and buses, today announced that it has secured $15 million of additional funding from GMAG Holdings Corp. The funding will be made by means of convertible notes that are expected to be converted into a Series C funding round, which Motiv is in the process of raising. With this new financing, Motiv aims to further scale its manufacturing operations, as well as fund technology and geographic expansion.

“Despite the challenges created by the current pandemic, Motiv’s progress continues at an impressive upward trajectory,” said Matt Gallaher, CFO at GMAG Holdings Corp. “We see great potential in the company’s future as the leading player in the commercial EV space.”

This new funding comes as the commercial electric vehicle (EV) market is gaining momentum as fleet owners look to meet new regulations, reduce costs, and answer social pressures for cleaner transportation options. As an example, the California Advanced Clean Truck rule, implemented by California’s Air Resources Board, mandates 50 percent of trucks sold in California must be zero-emissions by 2035, and 100 percent by 2045.

“This funding demonstrates the sustained commitment of GMAG Holdings, Motiv’s largest investor, to support our growth,” said Matt O’Leary, Motiv Chairman and CEO. “Our progress with down costing, investment in a strong customer support team, and a proven 5th generation technology have resulted in some 200 vehicle orders, more than half of which are repeat orders from happy customers.”

In April, Motiv celebrated 1 million electric miles logged among several of the largest fleets in North America, equating to 900 plus metric tons of greenhouse gas (GHG) eliminated, which is the equivalent to 213 passenger vehicles driven for one year.

“Time and again, our customers give Motiv high marks on their vehicle performance across a range of diverse medium-duty vehicles, from trucks and buses, to specialty vehicles and shuttles,” continued O’Leary. “We leverage this feedback into higher-performing and even more-reliable and lower-cost products with every generation.”

As a leader in the commercial EV space, Motiv believes that it is well positioned for growth with its proprietary AdaptEV software platform, patented power electronics, and industry-leading truck and bus body partners.

Motiv Power Systems Deploys its First Electric Trolley with Hometown Trolley and the Town of Estes Park, Colorado

The new electric trolley provides residents and visitors mountain views with zero tailpipe emissions

[Foster City, Calif. – July 14, 2020]Motiv Power Systems, a sustainable technology company delivering all-electric chassis with a proven software platform for the electrification of medium-duty trucks and buses, announced the deployment of its first electric trolley with the Town of Estes Park in Colorado, with one more planned. The Town operates a free shuttle service during the peak summer tourism season and for several special annual events. Motiv supplied its Ford eQVM approved EPIC F-53 chassis, and worked with Hometown Trolley who designed and built the custom body. With a capacity for 24 passengers and designed to hold enough battery charge for eight hours of service, trolleys electrified by Motiv are ideal for people moving services with predictable routes.

A small socially distanced ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on July 1st and included masked Town staff and officials, including Mayor Wendy Koenig, who remarked that the two trolleys would save 3,456 gallons of fuel over one season. Given a 10K annual mile usage with 104 miles per day, by switching from gasoline to electric, they estimate a 30-metric ton C02 reduction.

“Deploying an electric trolley in Estes Park, on the base of the Rocky Mountain National Park, sends a clear message: we care about sustainability, air quality and the health of our community,” said Vanessa Solesbee, CAPP, Parking & Transit Manager, Town of Estes Park. “We are pleased to partner with Motiv Power Systems, who's delivered on their mission to free fleets from fossil fuels by providing many fleets electric versions of their vehicles, and today our first electric trolley. We hope this is the first of many electric vehicles for our community, setting an example for others to follow.”

Even as COVID-19 significantly slowed the travel industry, tourism’s carbon impact is undeniable, especially in the transportation sector. Motiv’s electric trolleys offer zero tailpipe emissions and reduce operation and maintenance costs by up to 85 percent, resulting in a significantly lower total cost of operation over the vehicle’s life.

“Not only is the Town of Estes realizing their sustainability goals with this beneficial application, but the unique design of the vehicle offers one of a kind views of the park and local terrain,” said Matt O’Leary, Motiv Chairman and CEO. “Motiv partners with each customer from start to finish, including finding funding, navigating charging infrastructure, and coordinating with partners to make sure every detail of the project is seamless. This approach helped Estes Park focus on what they do best, showcasing the beauty of the region while at the same time improving air quality.”

Today’s municipal and commercial fleets are embracing electric vehicles (EVs) over their internal combustion engine (ICE) counterparts for benefits such as O&M cost savings, compliance with upcoming mandates, improved driver experience, and clean air in the communities they serve. These deployments are ideal applications for EVs, with repeatable routes and predictable overnight depot charging. Motiv works with leading fleet operators to help them meet their sustainability and business goals.
