Motiv Power Systems Wins 175 New Vehicle Vouchers in California’s HVIP Electric Vehicle Incentive Program

The EV Innovator’s 2022 Tally Adds to a Combined Total of 250-Plus Vouchers for Motiv Customers

FOSTER CITY, Calif., Dec. 08, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Motiv Power Systems, the leading innovator of all-electric medium duty trucks and buses driving the backbone of modern commerce, today announced it has secured 175 new vehicle vouchers in California’s HVIP incentive program designed to speed the deployment of electric vehicles (EVs).

The Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP) is the California program that accelerates deployment of zero-emission technologies by providing point-of-sale vouchers to make EVs more affordable.

With 39% of the nation’s electric vehicles, California is a leader in creating a fossil free future. Motiv is propelling the state’s supply of medium-duty electric trucks and buses by helping customers source funding programs, complete applications, and receive incentives. Motiv-supported HVIP vouchers awarded in 2022 have a cumulative value of $12.9M and will bring EVs to California roads for a diverse group of companies across the state.

“Companies need a partner to navigate the complex world of electric vehicles, not just in incorporating the right EVs to convert their entire fleets to zero-emission, but also in sourcing and securing the incentives that are helping to drive fleet transformations for the businesses that are the backbone of our economy,” said Tim Krauskopf, CEO of Motiv Power Systems. “At Motiv, we pride ourselves in being a true partner with customers, and our success rate for HVIP vouchers is only matched by industry-leading delivery of the vehicles that are proven in the real world. From incentives for purchase, to reliable charging infrastructure, to scaling customized EV fleets, we’re proud to walk hand in hand with the businesses marching forward with electrification.”

To date, Motiv Power Systems has secured more than 250 vouchers from HVIP and has more than 150 EVs on the road, proving its power to deliver medium-duty EVs at scale. Motiv works with customers across a broad spectrum of business including Cintas, FedEx, Aramark, Alsco, Bimbo, and more. Vehicles produced from the HVIP vouchers include parcel delivery step vans, retail goods vehicles, commercial trucks, shuttles, and school buses.

The 2031 deadline for California-based companies to replace half of their medium-duty commercial truck fossil-fueled engines makes EV fleet deployments mission-critical and highly sought after. In order to support partners through the complex and competitive voucher process, Motiv Power Systems continually seeks out new and revised funding opportunities to inform potential and current customers of new possibilities and guide them through the application process.

Motiv EVs operate at over 98 percent uptime and have more than two million miles logged in North America. Motiv’s next-generation battery, created in partnership with Our Next Energy (ONE), can deliver a range of over 150 miles while hauling a three-ton payload.

Motiv’s 6th generation platform will also include a new motor co-designed with the electric motor manufacturer, Nidec Motor Corporation, as part of Motiv’s suite of patented technologies. Motiv’s new Nidec motor achieves peak torque levels equal to widely used diesel Class 8 semi-tractors.

New President & Chief Commercial Officer
Motiv is also bolstering its executive team with the recent appointment of veteran Fortune 500 and private equity senior executive, Lisa McClung, who joined Motiv in March as President and Chief Commercial Officer.

“Lisa’s a dynamo who brings a wealth of proven expertise to Motiv’s customer and competitive market strategy,” Krauskopf said. “Prior to joining, she was a valued growth and marketing advisor to Motiv’s board and has hit the ground running – driving increased sales and re-shaping Motiv’s go-to-market strategy around solving critical customer needs. Lisa brings a strong track record of translating customer engagement – from fleet to C-suite – into differentiated products and services that speed the transfer of Motiv’s EV expertise our customers and help them build effective, scalable operations to achieve their ESG goals.”

McClung is the former CEO of Lismore Advisors and has more than 25 years of experience in senior executive roles building and executing successful growth strategies across a wide range of industries – including public, private and private equity-held companies with established brands such as the Wrigley Company and General Electric.

“Effective, sustainable growth is about by delivering solutions that solve real customer needs in a differentiated way,” said Lisa McClung. “Motiv is focused not just on electrifying fleets but on delivering products and services that help our customers use their EV transformation to open multiple new business opportunities and address a wide range of challenges more effectively,” she added.

Motiv’s Next Generation EV Truck Battery Exceeds 150-Mile Range in New Field Testing

A Milestone Achieved by a Motiv Medium-Duty EV Truck Hauling a 3-Ton Payload

New Modular Technology Features Option to Extend Battery Range to More than 200 Miles on a Single Charge

(Foster City, Calif – March 8, 2022) – Motiv Power Systems, the leading innovator of EV vans, trucks, and shuttle buses driving the backbone of urban commerce, has new field test results on its next-generation technology that redefines range and payload limits for daily-use commercial fleet vehicles.

Motiv is partnering with the Michigan-based developer of innovative energy storage technology, Our Next Energy (ONE), for battery technology for Motiv’s 6th generation all-electric vehicles – which are currently in testing and will launch in early 2023.

Motiv’s step vans, trucks, and buses will soon feature ONE’s Aries™ LFP battery system that can be deployed with a full vehicle payload on routes of more than 150 miles per charge – a range that exceeds commonly available medium-duty EV technology.

In a Motiv field test, a medium-duty electric vehicle hauling 6,000 pounds of payload easily traveled the 150-mile drive south from San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge to the Bixby Bridge in Monterey. A second field test was conducted on public roads in both city and highway traffic conditions in a vehicle hauling the daily payload typical for Motiv’s commercial customers.

“This is a major milestone for our commercial customers – who deploy EV fleets every day that are critical to driving business results,” said Tim Krauskopf, CEO of Motiv Power Systems. “In fact, the expanded 150-mile range easily doubles the number of addressable routes a fleet can complete with Motiv trucks and buses – which means they’re able to deliver more goods, services, and people for their customers,” Krauskopf added.

The new battery technology from ONE is an advancement for the commercial sector – and will enable Motiv to provide 156 kWh with two battery packs instead of three packs for 127 kWh. Motiv customers will also benefit from ONE’s safe and sustainable LFP cathode chemistry.

The Aries chemistry is free of nickel and cobalt, which helps lower costs and create a more sustainable raw material supply chain compared to the current industry standard. Nickel and Cobalt are expensive to mine, have increased environmental impact, and are constrained by supply chain issues, whereas LFP chemistry eliminates these issues almost entirely. LFP chemistry is also safer, more thermally and chemically stable, and has a significantly longer lifetime.

“Our Structural Cell-to-Pack architecture yields higher system-level energy density compared to leading competitors” said Mujeeb Ijaz, founder, and CEO of ONE. “Improving the energy density of electric commercial vehicles will allow for better range, increasing fleet-wide adoption.”

ONE’s scalable architecture allows for series and parallel configurations and at least 3,000 recharge cycles. The company’s integrated Battery Management System (BMS) also protects against overcharging. Since the chemistry is safe to pack densely, Motiv’s new 156 kWh battery system will take up 30 percent less volume than its current 127 kWh configuration, which will help improve range and performance.

Motiv’s 6th generation platform will also include a new motor as part of the company’s suite of patented technologies. Motiv’s family of all-electric vehicles, powered by ONE, will be available across Motiv’s entire range of vehicle applications in 2023.
